The Rose Bowl Awards aim to encourage excellence in the amateur theatre within the South West of England. The Awards, presented annually since 1963 and described as the ‘Oscars of the South West’ for the amateur stage, are open to any amateur dramatic or operatic club in Bristol and surrounding area including Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. Award winners are nominated by a panel of adjudicators who are chosen for their extensive qualifications and experience in the amateur and professional theatre, either through performing or teaching. Nominations for the 21 Award categories are announced in August. This includes an Award for Best Opera/Operetta/Gilbert & Sullivan Production which is reinstated for 2019 and an Award for Best Youth Actor in an Adult Production which was first presented in 2018. The winners are presented with an engraved Bristol blue glass bowl at the Awards ceremony in October, attended by some 400 representatives of Clubs entering for an Award. www.rosebowlawards.org.uk
The 2019 Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 20 October at The Winter Gardens Pavilion, Weston-Super-Mare. Tickets £30 if anyone would like to go.
