After their successful show earlier this year, “The King and I”, Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society was delighted to donate money to two local charities.

The Douglas Macmillan Haematology & Oncology Unit at Yeovil Hospital delivers cancer care to thousands of local patients every year and with public donations, they are able to buy state -of-the-art equipment and provide the very best facilities for cancer patients and support for their families. Maria Grosvenor and Bethan Phillips from the Unit are pictured receiving a cheque for £1,500 from the YAOS chairman, Geoff Thresh.

Also in the picture is Liz Pike, from The Yeovil Community Arts Association, which promotes creative arts in South Somerset.  They hold an international writing competition, they facilitate the Yeovil Literary Festival and they have regular events on at the Octagon Theatre, including a monthly book club. YAOS were pleased to present the YCAA with a cheque for £250.

The Society members are pictured at their headquarters, Edwards House, during a break in their rehearsals for the next show “IOLANTHE”, by Gilbert & Sullivan, on at the Octagon in October.
